Tool and Die Maintenance Technician

With the resurgence of manufacturing in Chattanooga region, manufacturers are in need of tool and dies, maintain press machines, create basic die sets, operate presses, and operate machines that are used in making die sets. The potential student will be a graduate from a TTC Machine Tool or Industrial Maintenance program, or have five years of documented work experience in machining or maintenance. The first semester will be wither machining for those with a maintenance diploma/background, or maintenance for those with a machining diploma/background. Semesters two and three will be the same for all students. The curriculum will focus on the following primary areas:

Option A for 1st semester: (450 hours)

For the student that is a graduate of an industrial maintenance program or that has at least five documentable years of experience in industrial maintenance work.

1. Shop Safety: (15 hours)

2. Hand Tools: (45 hours)

3. Blueprint Reading: (45 hours)

4. Precision Measuring Tools: (60 hours)

5. Drill Presses: (45 hours)

6. Grinders: (60 hours)

7. Lathes: (60 hours)

8. Milling Machine: (60 hours)

9. Computer Numerical Control: (60 hours)

Option B for 1st semester: (450 hours)

For the student that is a graduate of a machine tool program or that has at least five documentable years of experience in machining work.

1. Orientation of the Trade: (36 hours)

2. Introduction to Test Instruments: (6 hours)

3. Material Handling & Hand Rigging: (18 hours)

4. Motor Controls: (120 hours)

5. Hydraulic Power: (90 hours)

6. Pneumatic Controls: (90 hours)

7. Automation and Robotic: (90 hours)

2nd Semester: (450 hours)

1. Shop Safety: (450 hours)

2. Introduction to Die Making Machines (30 hours)

3. Principles of Blanking and Piercing Dies: (45 hours)

4. Elementary Blank and Piercing Dies: (60 hours)

5. Bending: (60 hours)

6. Screw Holes and Dowel Holes: (60 hours)

7. Die Life: (60 hours)

8. Punches: (60 hours)

9. Punches Mounted in Punch Plates: (60 hours)

3rd Semester: (390 hours)

1. Shop Safety: (15 hours)

2. Stripper and Stock Guides: (60 hours)

3. Shredders and knockouts: (60 hours)

4. Die Stops: (60 hours)

5. Die Sets: (75 hours)

6. Sharpening Punches: (40 hours)

7. Sharpening Sections: (40 hours)

8. Die and Press Maintenance: (40 hours)
