Summary of Required Hours - Traditional Pathway

 Students may become eligible for the A.A.S. in Dental Assisting by completing the following summary of required hours:

DAST courses*           36 hours

ENGL 1010                  3 hours

Humanities/Fine Arts  3 hours

PSYC 1030                  3 hours

BIOL 2010                   4 hours

BIOL 2020                   4 hours

Directed Electives**    7 hours

TOTAL      60 hours

*Must be taken at Chattanooga State.

** Any combination of seven (7) hours must be taken from courses with the following prefixes: BIOL, CHEM, INFS, HE, HS, HUM, MATH, PE, PHED, PHIL, SOCI, SPCH.

*Advanced placement credit of 36 semester hours may be awarded to dental assistants who have current state or national certification or registration as a result of graduation from a program that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

* Hours earned as a result of current state or national certification or registration as a result of graduation from an American Dental Association Accredited Certificate program in Dental Assisting will count toward the degree but carry no quality points, do not count in calculation of the grade point average, and may not be used toward satisfaction of the graduation residency requirements for the A.A.S. degree.

** Any combination of seven (7) hours must be taken from courses with the following prefixes: BIOL, CHEM, INFS, HE, HS, HUM, MATH, PE, PHED, PHIL, SOCI, SPCH.
