Associate of Applied Science Degree
All courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C”.
The following courses are program pre-requisites and will determine the selection of accepted students to the program: BIOL 1110 (General Biology I), ENGL 1010 Composition I), and VETT 1010 (Introduction to Veterinary Technology). These courses must be completed before the start of the spring semester to be eligible for acceptance into the program which starts each spring semester. Application deadline is November 1st. VETT 1010 is the only VETT course with open enrollment. Students must be accepted to the program to take any other VETT courses. All four credit courses have a lecture plus a lab or clinical hours Additional requirements for acceptance into the program include sixteen hours of observation at a veterinary practice and taking the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills). *Requires one to be at college level Reading, English and Math.
Should a student test below college level, there is an option to take developmental courses in the summer in order stay on track for the fall. Developmental courses are available throughout the year.
General Education courses may be taken prior to admittance to the program. For a complete listing of approved general education courses go to A.A.S. Career Degree Information. Taking any Chemistry course, although not required, prior to General Biology will be helpful in student success.
Note(s)
This program is NOT designed to meet educational requirements for pre-veterinary programs to become a Veterinarian. A Veterinary Technician is equivalent to a Registered Nurse for animals. VETT courses will only be offered during the semesters in which they are listed above. All curriculum courses require a minimum grade of “C” for continuation in the program. Introduction to Veterinary Technology (VETT 1010 ) is a course that covers all career paths within the veterinary field. Breed identification of many species is included. Pre-veterinary students are invited to take this course to learn such material
