06:10:00 Attendance

  1. Absenteeism/Tardiness of professional and clerical/support employees:
    1. All employees are expected to report to work on all scheduled working days and to be on time.  Tardiness or absences from the workplace must be reported to the immediate supervisor by 8:15 am of each day. Advance requests for annual leave and sick leave are expected of all employees except in the case of emergencies or unexpected circumstances. Sick leave due to unexpected illness should be reported on a leave request form immediately upon return to work. An employee who is absent from duty for more than three (3) consecutive business days without giving notice to the appointing authority or appropriate manager concerning the reason for such absence and without securing permission to be on leave or who fails to report for duty or to the immediate supervisor or the appointing authority within two (2) business days after the expiration of any authorized leave of absence, absent unusual circumstances causing the employee’s absence or preventing the employee’s return, is considered as having resigned not in good standing.

B. Faculty Attendance:
1. Faculty members are expected to begin and end classes on time and be present in class or laboratory during all scheduled meeting periods and to be available during scheduled office hours.

2. In the event it becomes necessary to leave the class or lab for a brief period of time, the faculty member must see that the students are appropriately supervised. In the event of absence, for any reason, the faculty member is responsible for having the class receive instruction. In case of an anticipated absence, the faculty member must propose a plan for approval by the appropriate Department Head and Divisional Dean. In case of an unanticipated absence, the Department Head should be notified by the faculty member regarding which classes will be missed so that alternative arrangements may be made. If a prolonged absence occurs and a substitute must be employed, the absence and compensation for a substitute must be approved by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs. All absences must be reported on a “Request for Absence from Regular Duties” form to the Department Head for maintenance of sick leave records.
