The Automation Mechatronics Program is a collaboration between Chattanooga State’s Engineering Technology Division and the Volkswagen Group of America, Chattanooga Operation LLC. Read more about Volkswagen Academy.

Mechatronics integrates the fields of mechanical, electrical, control, and computer engineering. This concentration was created because knowledge across these disciplines is essential to improve and/or optimize the functionality of modern engineering systems. Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on training in electronics, robotics, automation, programmable logic controllers, manufacturing processes, fluid power, and welding.

The Automation Mechatronics track prepares the engineering student for positions in automated assembly and manufacturing processes at Volkswagen. The program is based on German curriculum and Volkswagen global standards. All classes are taught at the state-of-the-art Volkswagen Academy adjacent to the Volkswagen Chattanooga plant. This three-year program combines five semesters of academic and practical training at the Volkswagen Academy with four semesters of paid, on-the-job training at the Volkswagen plant.

The Automation Mechatronics track requires a separate application, and students are chosen from a pool of applicants through a competitive selection process based on testing and interviews. Students are challenged throughout the program and must be at college level in all subjects. Students must follow Volkswagen’s policies and meet attendance expectations to remain in the program.

For program application, please email Retha Jackson or call 423-490-9305.
