The demand for technically trained people is increasing rapidly in Tennessee as well as throughout the world. The engineer is a most important member of the technical team which includes the scientist, technician, and skilled craftsman. Opportunities are unlimited for men and women in the field of engineering. The preparation for the engineering profession is based on rigorous academic standards, especially in mathematics and science. This degree will also provide engineering generalists who will fill positions with the growing manufacturing and energy industry-related businesses in the Tennessee Valley region. This degree is a formalization of the current Pre-Engineering program into a degree granting program. It will be unique in nature as it allows students to complete the first two years of their engineering curriculum and transfer as a junior to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in pursuit of a discipline-specific engineering degree.
