Chattanooga State offers "anytime, anywhere" education through its office of Academic Resources. Both credit and non-credit courses are delivered via a variety of methods, WEB-Asynchronous (fully online); virtual classes with scheduled Zoom/WebEx calls, and TN eCampus fully online classes. Athletics


Chattanooga State provides National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I competition in women's fast-pitch softball, women's and men's basketball, and baseball. Division ll sports include women's volleyball. Chattanooga State's teams are often nationally ranked, and student athletic scholarships are available.

The Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) is committed to the mission of the college, and our mission is to assist students in completing their educational goals while fostering a college environment that is caring, inclusive, and as free from disruption to the educational process as possible. Chattanooga State Community College is concerned about the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff. ChSCC is committed to providing an environment where individuals are free to work, learn and teach, unencumbered and uninhibited by threats of intimidation or harm. Center for Academic Advising 


The Center for Academic Advising provides a network of professional academic advisors who support students as they establish and realize their personal, academic, and career goals.  Our goal is also to provide a common experience for all students by assigning a professional advisor to assist and guide students so they are retained at Chattanooga State from the time of enrollment through to graduation. We require all students to meet with an advisor to build an academic plan that will guide course selection through the completion of an academic program.  Academic Advisors build relationships that empower students to take personal responsibility and ownership of their educational endeavors.

  • "Any major change requires that all admissions requirements be completed before future registration. Change of Major forms are completed electronically through the student's Tigerweb account. Any Change of Major must be approved by an Academic Advisor for the respective Academic Division."
  • If you need to change your major log into TigerWeb, find the Resources section, click Change of Major, complete online form. Choose the correct Academic Division, and then choose your desired major. Effective term is the current semester. Completion term (semester and year) is when you expect to graduate from Chattanooga State.

Center for Access and Disability Services 


The Center for Access and Disability Services (CAADS) provides accommodations for students with disabilities in order to provide equal access to programs and activities offered by the College. Accommodations may include extended time for testing, a reduced distraction testing environment, sign language interpreters, note-takers, assistive listening, and audio recording devices, and adaptive computer equipment. CAADS also assists students in linking to appropriate campus and community resources, such as; counseling, tutoring, registration assistance, and Vocational Rehabilitation.

Child Development Center


The Child Development Center serves Chattanooga State students and employees on a space-available basis. The Center also serves as a demonstration/observation area for Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Nursing, and Allied Health programs. Monthly fees are charged for participation.

Wellness Check

The Student Support Center offers resources for those with unmet basic needs. The process for requesting emergency aid is personalized for you.  The first step is to log into Tiger Web where you will find the Wellness Check on the right side of your screen.


Helping Hands Fund

Established in 2018 through the Chattanooga State Foundation, the Helping Hands Fund is designed to support current Chattanooga State students in need who encounter unforeseen financial emergencies that would otherwise prevent them from staying in school and completing their program of study. Requests to this fund must be urgent.
 

Tiger Cupboard

With the support of faculty and staff volunteers, the Tiger Cupboard food pantry provides short-term emergency help to those who struggle with food insecurity. Those needing our assistance receive supplemental food and other necessities that promote "healthy lifestyle choices". Also, the Cupboard provides connections to community resources. 

 

Homeless Liaison

In the 2019 Legislative Session, House Bill 1000/Senate Bill 763 (now Public Chapter 266) was passed. In summary, this bill requires degree-granting postsecondary educational institutions to designate a staff member (employed in the financial aid office or another appropriate office) to serve as a homeless-student liaison to assist homeless students who are enrolled, or are planning to enroll, in the institution. This liaison is responsible for understanding the provisions pertaining to financial aid eligibility of homeless students and identifying services available and appropriate for students.

Donald F. Andrews Reading and Writing Center


The Humanities and Fine Arts Division has established the Donald F. Andrews Reading and Writing Center, which offers free reading and writing help for Chattanooga State students through a team of professional tutors. The Andrews Reading and Writing center offers in-person, virtual, and email tutoring where tutors will: 

  • create and maintain a supportive, constructive environment
  • help at any stage of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, or revising
  • discuss assignment requirements and any concerns students have about them
  • help students focus on the most important aspects of an assignment
  • help identify major sentence-level error patterns
  • provide strategies for long-term reading and writing success
  • admit when we don't have the answers but work hard to find them

Early College/Dual Enrollment 


Chattanooga State partners with area school districts to provide high school students with the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. Students attend college classes during the regular school day on their high school campus, on any Chattanooga State campus and even online! By taking advantage of Tennessee's Dual Enrollment Grant, Tennessee students can receive scholarship money to put towards tuition with Early College. Hamilton County Collegiate High


This cooperative program between Hamilton County Board of Education and Chattanooga State allows high school students to enter the College and take college credit courses at the same time as high school requirements are completed. As students graduate from Hamilton County Collegiate High, they will have already earned a number of college credits-occasionally with enough credits to earn the Associate degree.

Library Services


The Augusta R. Kolwyck Library & Information Commons (KLIC) is located on the Instructional Materials Center's first floor.  KLIC provides a place to study, collaborate and learn for the Chattanooga State community.  KLIC is equipped with over 100 computers (Macs & PCs), quiet and collaborative study areas, traditional and mobile classrooms, ​Wi-Fi, four multimedia group study rooms, a course-integrated library instruction program tailored to class assignments, and research and technology assistance. 

 

KLIC's holdings (as of 2022) include 27,039 print books, 308,584 e-books; 88 print journal subscriptions; 74,857 online journal subscriptions; and 1,125 audiovisual materials. Students can search more 88 online databases containing journal articles, videos, art slides, music, news stories, literary and biography information, as well as complete books. Media Services


The Media Services department is located in the MTC building which also houses the college's radio station, wawl.org, the TV studio and the police department.

Media Services provides support to faculty, staff, and students in the use of educational technology in teaching and learning. The Media Services department maintains and administers the college's AV systems across the Chattanooga State campuses.

The department provides audio-visual support for classes and special events, training for all permanently installed classroom audio-visual equipment and support for videoconferencing.

The staff offers a variety of services in the audio/visual field. Including video and audio production, training, and assistance with multimedia.

Office of Student Conduct


The Office of Student Conduct manages the Student Code of Conduct and the conduct process in which alleged violations are heard. Violations are handled with a student-development approach and sanctions are administered fairly and relative to the charge. The Office of Student Conduct also oversees the Student Complaint process which provides a fair and efficient process for students to present complaints related to conflict with students or employees of the College, as well as objections to an action or condition of the College. Finally, the Office of Student Conduct is responsible for providing Title IX (Sexual Misconduct), drug, and alcohol training to students. Public Safety


11:01:00 SMOKING AND TOBACCO USE POLICY

Chattanooga State Community College recognizes the increasing weight of scientific evidence that smoking is harmful not only to the "active" smoker but also to the "passive" smoker who is exposed to others' smoke. Smoking is defined as the lighting or carrying of a lighted cigarette, cigar, pipe, or similar device, such as, an electronic smoking device. Electronic smoking device is defined as an electronic device that can be used to deliver nicotine or other substances to the person inhaling from the device, including, but not limited to, an electronic cigarette, cigar, cigarillo, pipe or tobacco alternative vaporizing/vapor producing device. The use of mouth tobacco (to include dipping, chewing, etc.) is also prohibited.

Smoking or use of tobacco products, as described above, is prohibited in any buildings, on all grounds, and in all open air areas owned or leased by the college. Additionally, smoking or use of tobacco products will not be allowed in any college owned or leased vehicles. Smoking and use of tobacco products are permitted in a personal vehicle legally parked in college parking areas. Smoke and tobacco usage must be confined within the vehicle.

Chattanooga State is not requiring faculty, staff and students to quit using tobacco products; however, we do expect the policy to be followed while on Chattanooga State property, and we are offering support to our students and employees who wish to stop using prohibited products.

The policy applies to all campuses and to the entire college community, including employees, students, and visitors. Members of the campus community are empowered to respectfully inform others about the policy in an ongoing effort to enhance awareness and encourage a culture of compliance. Campus Police will also be responsible for reminding any faculty, staff, student or visitor who is using tobacco on College property about the College's Tobacco-Free Policy. Campus Police may also ask to see identification of faculty, staff, students and visitors, and complete an incident report for anyone who is found violating the College's policy. Incident reports for students will be sent to the Dean of Students/Judicial Affairs for processing through the student disciplinary procedures. Reports for employees will be sent to Human Resources for processing through the employee disciplinary process.

Co-Requisite Remediation

Co-requisite remediation offers learning support in English, reading, and math for students who are not fully prepared for college level courses.  The student is enrolled concurrently in both Learning Support and appropriate linked college level courses.

Co-requisite Learning Support Policies and Procedures

  • Valid ACT, SAT, SAILS, or ACCUPLACER scores are needed to determine co-requisite placement.
  • Scores must be no more than five years old prior to the first day of class for the student's entering term.
  • Students without valid test scores (ACT, SAT, or SAILS) or who wish to challenge their current placement will take the ACCUPLACER test at Chattanooga State.
  • When a student's placement requires remediation in more than one subject area, Learning Support competencies may require more than one semester of work, but should be completed within the first 30 semester credit hours.In this case, literacy requirements should be addressed first.
  • The co-requisite Learning Support course is a required semester-long course that aligns with the competencies required in the linked college-level course to facilitate successful completion of the college-level course.
  • Students may not withdraw from either part of linked co-requisite courses.
  • Credit hours earned for Learning Support courses do not satisfy degree requirements for an associate degree.

The purpose of the WAWL is to serve as a learning lab for students enrolled in the Media Technologies degree program where they are able to receive valuable hands-on experience in the art of radio broadcasting
