02:41:00  Syllabus Policy

  1. This policy establishes the institutional requirements relative to course syllabi.
  2. Guidelines
    1. Each course will have a master syllabus that is ADA-compliant.  All master syllabi and the template for the syllabi are housed in the Curriculum Committee and Master Syllabi Campus Guide.
    2. The Department Head or Program Director will ensure that each faculty member is teaching with the most recent version of the course syllabus.  This includes in-person, hybrid, virtual, and online syllabi.
    3. No later than the first day of class, all faculty must provide every student in their classes with a current course syllabus in an accessible format.
    4. The syllabus must also be posted in the current Course Management System, but can also be provided in a paper format.
    5. All faculty can also add specific instructor and course information as an addendum to the official syllabus.
  3. Maintenance
    1. Each year, the Chair of the Curriculum Committee will notify all academic divisions to review their master syllabi.  Faculty members from each academic division will review their master syllabi housed on the Chattanooga State Curriculum Committee and Master Syllabi Campus Guide for accuracy and currency.  Should updates need to be made, the Department Head or Program Director will send the revised syllabus to the Curriculum Committee Chair, who will update the Campus Guide.
    2. Should the Curriculum Committee approve a new or revised course, it is the responsibility of the Department Head or Program Director to send the new master syllabus to the Curriculum Committee Chair, who will update the Campus Guide.
