Deleted Policy 03:38:00 Tennessee Board of Regent/Tennessee Higher Education Commission Student Member

 

  1. Upon receipt of the application process from the TBR Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the President will forward the information to the VP of Student Affairs. The designated student affairs staff person will in accordance with TCA 49-8-201 (b) and the Tennessee Board of Regent (TBR), and TCA 49-7-204 (c) and the Tennessee Higher Education commission (THEC) instructions make available in mid-February the nomination application for TBR Student Regent and/or THEC Student Member to all clubs and organization advisors, as well as, campus wide to faculty and staff. The student affairs staff person will set a timeline and a selection process for internal review of applicants before the applications are submitted to the President. The President or his designee(s) will select the application(s)to be submitted to the Board.
    1. The Student Regent is expected to attend each quarterly meeting of the TBR and other committee meetings as necessary. The representative is also expected to travel throughout the state as needed to fulfill his/her duties. Because the representative will be expected to articulate the students’ point of view regarding agenda topics, it is important that the student be committed to meeting preparation and regular interaction with their peers.
    2.  Qualifications
      1. Nominee must be a resident of the State of Tennessee in that they pay in-state tuition.Nominee must be enrolled full-time and be in good standing at the time of nomination.
      2. If appointed, the nominee must maintain full-time enrollment and good standing at an institution which is a member of the state university and community college system during their term on the board.
      3. The term of service for the Student Regent is one year.
      4. The majority of the fundamental responsibilities of the TBR Student Regent are also applicable to the role of the THEC Student member.
      5. Nominee must be a resident of the State of Tennessee in that they pay in-state tuition.
      6. Nominee must be enrolled full-time and be in good standing at the time of nomination.
      7. If appointed, the nominee must maintain full-time enrollment and good standing at an institution which is a member of the state university and community college system during their term on the board
      8. The term of service for the THEC Student Member is two years.
  2. Service.
    1. A single student may apply for both the Student Regent and The THEC Student Member. However, a student may only serve in one of these two roles at a given time.
  3. Appointment.
    1. TBR Student Body Presidents select and submit the candidates’ qualifications to the Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor for submission to the Governor. The Governor appoints the Student Regent and the THEC Student Member.
