Privacy Rights of Students
  1. At Chattanooga State Community College records are considered confidential. Public Law 93-380, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Tennessee Public Records Act govern the college's policy regarding the use and release of student records. Student Instructions for adding authorized users
  2. Under the terms of these laws, the college and its employees are charged with protecting the confidentiality of the educational records of its students - prospective students, currently enrolled students, and former students. The college is empowered to disclose relevant portions of student records to faculty and staff determined to have a legitimate educational interest.
  3. Directory Information may be released without prior consent from the student. At the time the student registers for courses, the student may notify the Records Office, in writing, that directory information for that student may not be released.
  4.  Directory Information is considered:
    1. Student's name
    2. Major field of study
    3. Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
    4. Weight and height of members of athletic teams
    5. Dates of attendance
    6. Degrees and awards received
    7. Most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student.
    8. Address
    9. Telephone Number
    10.  Email Address
    11. Date of Birth
    12. Grade Level
    13. Enrollment Status (FT/PT)
  5. All exceptions to this policy, including disclosure to external persons or agencies, shall be administered by the registrar, the director of Educational Outreach Programs and Retention, the vice presidents for Academic and Student Affairs or the President.
