02:19:04 Faculty Development Policy

 

  1. The purpose of this policy is to recognize the need for continued professional growth and development of all faculty and delineate the responsibilities of faculty and the College.
  2. The continued professional growth and development of faculty is necessary for institutions of higher education to continue providing educational programs which may include the following:
    1. new developments and knowledge in academic disciplines;  
    2. new instructional methods, research techniques, and public service strategies;
    3. strategies to meet changing needs and expectations of students.
  3. Responsibilities
    1. While all faculty are responsible for their own continued professional development, it is essential that Chattanooga State Community College provide planned, organized faculty development programs to encourage professional growth in accordance with its missions and goals.
    2. Chattanooga State Community College will meet the following minimum guidelines concerning faculty development:
      1. Chattanooga State shall plan and implement on an annual basis a structured, coordinated program for faculty development. The program will be designed to achieve predetermined institutional objectives, and will utilize an appropriate variety of activities which may include the following:
        • systematic evaluation of instruction by students, faculty and appropriate administrators to provide a means of increasing the effectiveness of the instructional program.
        • encouragement of innovation and improvement of instruction by using a recognition system, i.e., outstanding professor awards.
        • effective use of grants-in-aid and scholarships pursuant to Tennessee Board of Regents Guidelines.
        • provision of financial support through grants or other means or the improvement of instruction, faculty participation in workshops, short courses and seminars designed to develop new skills in instruction, research and public service, and faculty participation in major activities of their respective professional associations.
        • sponsorships of local forums, lectures, and workshops on scholarly developments and activities.
      2. Institutional budgets will reflect the amount of funds allocated for faculty development at Chattanooga State.
      3. The office of the Chancellor will also maintain a system level program for faculty development to supplement and enhance the faculty development programs at Chattanooga State.
      4. The calendars and activities of System level programs will be planned in cooperation with the President’s Council and appropriate Sub-Councils.
