      3. create library services and collections that enhance learning and support student success;
      4. advocate for administrative support of broad, diverse and relevant resources to meet program needs and to meet various programmatic and regional accreditation standards.This is accomplished by gathering input from stakeholders and implementing library and information sciences best practices;
      5. create instruction classes and other teaching materials to support critical thinking skills;
      6. identify and implement the best emerging technologies and services to enhance research and student learning;
  2. Facility, Location and Hours
    1. Students, faculty, and staff have access to KLIC on the main campus, 4501 Amnicola Highway, Chattanooga, TN  37406. The library is located on the first floor of the Instructional Materials Center Building and encompasses approximately 22,000 square feet and is open approximately 79 hours per week during the regular academic year.  A calendar of current hours may be found at http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/c.php?g=212457&p=3402449.
    2. KLIC has approximately 408 student seats, including 117 student computers, a traditional library instruction classroom with 28 computers and a mobile classroom designed to teach students using mobile technology. The library has a variety of mobile devices from which to teach. The library contains four multimedia group study rooms and a large multimedia meeting room all replete with TV screens and specialized software for students to collaborate on multimedia projects and presentations. Students are provided with access to three area libraries per cooperative partnerships. In addition to library privileges on campus, students and faculty have access to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Library collection via the TALC (Tennessee Academic Library Collaborative) card which they can get at the library service desk.
    3. KLIC is open virtually 24/7 through the library website.  Through this web portal, the Library provides access to electronic books, full-text journal articles, and streaming media online.
    4. KLIC has also partnered with several local libraries in the vicinity of Chattanooga State’s sites to enhance library services and resources to students.
  3. Services
    1. Assigned Library Liaisons
      1. All credentialed librarians are assigned as library liaisons throughout the six academic divisions and in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Faculty collaborate with library liaisons to tailor library instruction classes to integrate with their courses and curriculum. Students have access to their liaisons or other reference librarians during all the hours that the library is open or by appointment. Library liaisons also communicate resource needs for the division to the library for purchase consideration and keep faculty abreast of the current literature in their areas of interest for inclusion in the library collection.
    2. Reference Assistance:
      1. In addition to having an assigned library liaison, all librarians monitor a library chat service all of the hours that the library is open. The chat service is available from the library’s web page or through text via their own mobile device. Students can also schedule a “RAD” (“Research Assistance Discussion”) session to meet one-on-one with a librarian to assist them in their research process.  More information is available through the main library website: library.chattanoogastate.edu
    3. Course Integrated Library Instruction
      1. All faculty may collaborate with American Library Association (ALA) accredited librarians in designing course integrated library instruction and online materials to fit the research needs of their classes.  Faculty may request instruction classes via the online web form http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/libclass or by contacting their library liaison for their department http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/libclass/info
    4. Circulation Services
      1. Current Circulation policies may be found: http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/circulationpolicies/borrowingitems  All patrons must present a valid faculty, staff, or student ID or Community Card for borrowing library materials.
    5. Interlibrary Loan
      1. Through the library’s interlibrary loan services, students have access to books and journal articles in the 16,000 plus libraries worldwide that are members of the Ohio College Library Center (OCLC) interlibrary loan network. The library absorbs the cost of borrowing these materials and provides this service free of charge to faculty, staff, or students.
    6. Materials Selection
      1. The library collects resources with additional emphasis being placed more and more on online materials that would provide 24/7 access:  books, journals, videos, test preparation and review guides, etc., in accordance with our Materials Selection Policy http://library.chattanoogastate.edu/ld.php?content_id=24673108 Students still check out books in many cases, but seem to prefer accessing journal articles and videos online. Thus, the library tries to find online videos and journals whenever possible. The benefit is that all students can access the same content 24/7 from any internet-connected device. With online videos, journals, and books, all students can have access to the same curriculum-related resources no matter where they are located or where their courses are taught. All faculty and students are invited to suggest materials for the library to acquire. Faculty requests for materials to support the curriculum will be honored as long as fiscal resources permit.
    7. In Print -Print journals and books are housed in the library and are arranged in the Library of Congress Classification schema.
    8. Online - Materials are found online with 24/7 access for our students. Online materials are provided through the library’s website whether specialized databases or through the aggregated search system, OneKLIC. Access is granted to these resources through a proxy server authenticating the user by their “Tiger ID” and password assigned by the College from any internet capable device (i.e. laptop, phone, tablet, etc.).
